The Floating Colors Print Series
Although I’ve created them myself, these 'floating colors' papers have the quality of found objects: shells on a beach or patterns in sand, the product of a natural process, though filled with personal meaning. They embody the aspect of creativity that’s natural, uncontrolled, unselfconscious – while the overlaid drawing represents its artistic duality: conscious, willfully formed, cognizant. Drawing becomes a process of revealing, as the transparent layers suggest or reveal those aspects of life that lie beneath the surface.
The images formed by the floating colors remind me of the inner body and its anatomical structures: honeycombed archways of trabecular bone, weblike branchings of blood vessels or neural networks. They lead me to imagine what my inner body would look like if my eyes could function like microscopes and zoom in on its intricate details.
In this print series, focusing on the visual correspondences between the human body and the rest of the natural world, I layer the floating colors papers with designs that come directly from nature: leafprints, made by inking and printing real leaves and flowers.

Floating Colors Drawings
In these drawings I use the shapes, colors, and textures of the floating colors to suggest states of body: assocations of sensory and sensual experience, evocations of bodily memory.
