New work: going deeper into anatomy to connect with my body’s creativity

The locus of pain, where my spinal cord and spinal nerves are most impinged on and constricted.  is also the place where the body’s creativity is most clearly and interestingly visible. Vertebrae take new forms in the body’s effort to maintain balance.

What motivates this work of counter-balancing, and how does the body know how to do it?  Is it simply the result of mechanical forces like gravity, acting unevenly on my spine – or is there a consciousness of the overall balance of the whole body?  Could there even be an aesthetic element, an effort or impulse toward balance that implies gracefulness?  Is the body’s ongoing quest for balance truly a creative process?

In my latest drawings, I’ve been exploring this mystery more deeply, zooming in to explore it in great detail.
